Fun. Have you heard the lead singer of Fun? What a tenor! And since I'm unabashedly nuts about Freddie Mercury's voice, I was pretty excited to discover Fun. For those young folks out there whose parents didn't expose them to a bunch of 60's and 70's music, Freddie Mercury is the (deceased too soon) lead singer of Queen. Freddie Mercury's voice is something fantastic, spanning a crazy broad range of 4 octaves, I believe. And the lead singer of Fun (Nate Ruess) has a similar sound with similarly impressive chops. I'm a child of the 80's, but my baby boomer dad thinks the "real" pop music was all written in the 60's and 70's so that's what I was exposed to early on. I grew to love the Beatles and I'm so thankful to have an appreciation for the music of those decades. Josh says I also have 90's blood running deep through my musical veins. I can't disagree. But truly my musical tastes go all the way back to the Renaissance and expand to the current day. Benny Goodman, Monteverdi, Mozart, and Taylor Swift are all on my iPod. Diversity is important, right? I sure hope so.
And on that note (pun acknowledged). . .C has officially begun piano lessons (he insists I sit on a stool while I teach him as I do with my other students). And thanks to Kindermusik, he has his first composition. Those are half notes and a rest. I guess we'll work on the existence of bar lines later =)
I despise a world which does not feel that music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and philosophy.

never heard of Fun... guess I need to look that up. I'm currently in grad school through ECU's school of music and that Beethoven quote fits nicely in what I'm reading now in my philosophy course. I too have very broad musical tastes so I'm finding the philosophy behind music and how it fosters the emotional response, and blah blah blah pretty fascinating although I end up reading over the same line 3 times before I can digest it. Def cant imagine a world without music.
